    Oil on canvas

A fantastical deep blue sky above a wildflower meadow is captured beautifully in this seemingly traditional but highly unconventional painting.

Using an original technique developed over many years, each individual blade of grass is flicked onto the canvas using a long, thin brush. The brush never touches the canvas in the painting of the grasses.

The result is a mass of movement and texture. The remarkable three-dimensional depth and focus of the foreground leaves you wanting to run your hands through the grasses.

The swirling, atmospheric inky blue sky almost looks like velvet.

This is a stunning painting on a deep support and will make an impressive impact in any space.

    • My studio is surrounded by beautiful wildflower meadows. These paintings are not a literal representation of them, more how I feel when I'm there.

The sky is painted traditionally using hand-ground oil paint. I work fast with large brushes, blending and moving the paint, gradually adding clouds and creating movement.

The foreground is a blend of alkyd resins mixed with oil paint, which creates the perfect consistency to flick onto the canvas. I use up to ten different greens, yellows, blues and reds to create the detail and depth of grass.

I constantly respond to how the painting changes and try to create somewhere that I would like to be.
